Spitzer Far-infrared Detections of Cold Circumstellar Disks

چکیده
Observations at 70 mm with the Spitzer Space Telescope have detected several stellar systems within 65 pc of the Sun. Of 18 presumably young systems detected in this study, as many as 15 have 70 mm emission in excess of that expected from their stellar photospheres. Five of the systems with excesses are members of the Tucanae association. The 70 mm excesses range from a factor of ∼2 to nearly 30 times the expected photospheric emission from these stars. In contrast to the 70 mm properties of these systems, there is evidence for an emission excess at 24 mm for only HD 3003, confirming previous results for this star. The lack of a strong 24 mm excess in most of these systems suggests that the circumstellar dust producing the IR excesses is relatively cool ( K) and that there is little IR-emitting material within the inner few AU of the primary stars. Many T 150 dust of these systems lie close enough to Earth that the distribution of the dust producing the IR excesses might be imaged in scattered light at optical and near-IR wavelengths. Spitzer-mips Observations of the Chamaeleontis Young Association
We have mapped the Chamaeleontis young stellar association in the far-infrared with the Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer (MIPS) on the Spitzer Space Telescope. All 16 members within the map region were detected at 24 m, along with five members at 70 m and two at 160 m. Ten stars show far-infrared excess emission indicating the presence of circumstellar disks; six of these have central c...
متن کاملDebris Disks around Nearby Stars with Circumstellar Gas
We conducted a survey for infrared excess emission from 16 nearby main sequence shell stars using the Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer (MIPS) on the Spitzer Space Telescope. Shell stars are early-type stars with narrow absorption lines in their spectra that appear to arise from circumstellar (CS) gas. Four of the 16 stars in our survey showed excess emission at 24 μm and 70 μm character...
متن کاملA Survey and Analysis of Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph Spectra of T Tauri Stars in Taurus
We present mid-infrared spectra of T Tauri stars in the Taurus star-forming region obtained with the Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph (IRS). For the first time, the 5–36 μm spectra of a large sample of T Tauri stars belonging to the same star-forming region is studied, revealing details of the midinfrared excess due to dust in circumstellar disks. We analyze common features and differences in the ...

We report the detection of [Ne ii] emission at 12.81μm in four out of the six optically thick dust disks observed as part of the FEPS Spitzer Legacy program. In addition, we detect a H i(7-6) emission line at 12.37μm from the source RX J1852.3-3700. Detections of [Ne ii] lines are favored by low mid–infrared excess emission. Both stellar X–rays and extreme UV (EUV) photons can sufficiently ioni...
